Hey hey hey! What up my Empaths, Highly-Sensitive peeps, and Extreme Empaths?!
In my last article, we talked about the differences between being a Highly Sensitive, and Empath, or Extreme Empath and here I’ll dive into 4 Lifesaving Self-care Tips for Empaths – to keep us all as balanced as we can be!
If we identify as either Highly-sensitive, an Empath or and Extreme Empath we must practice self-care and be extra vigilant with our emotional protection.
As we all probably know, we soak up the emotions of others like a paper towel if we’re not careful.
Here are four tips for Empath Self-care:
Meditate or visualize.
- In private or in the moment, imagining your consciousness expanding out around you in a bubble. The bubble can be any color you like, I prefer lavender, go figure.
- The bubble protects you and the energies will bounce right off – as long as you hold this in your mind’s eye.
- This exercise can protect you from negative people, situations and those negative, dusty vibes I mentioned in the other article (link).
- You can also use this exercise to share your love and light with those that may be suffering around you. So, not only do the negative energies bounce off, but you send your love and light out to those surrounding you.
- Sending out healing love for whatever they may need it for in turn effects our own experience.
- Try it and share with the group! I’d love to hear how strong you are with this tactic – you can do it!
Set boundaries at work and at home.
- Communicate these needs as they arise; know your needs and assert them.
- Create a quiet space for yourself, even if you take a break and sit in your car at work.
- Extra tip: A few minutes of doing a gratitude list will do wonders!
Smell essential oils.
- Super simple! This is great because you can carry them on you and bust them out at any time.
- Add a little to the edge of your nostrils and it will help you remain present. It will also remind you to take deep breaths and come from a place of gratitude.
- Use the essential oils to imagine the lavender bubble from #1.
Mineral bath.
- If you just can’t shake those dusty vibes and are still running around like a cat with tape on its paw – take a mineral bath as soon as you can. (I know cats don’t like water, so we can drop the cat metaphor now.)
- Draw a bath, pour in Epsom salts, and add a few drops of your favorite essential oils, and soak.
- If you can, add a meditation around self-love and loving the world or even mentally list all of the things you are grateful for.
- While you’re at it, surround yourself with charged crystals that absorb negative energy and emotion, if that’s your thing. 😉
Most importantly – take care of yourself. Self-care is the key.
“Having empathy means our heart goes out to another person in joy or pain,” says Dr. Judith Orloff. “But, for empaths, it goes much farther. We actually feel others’ emotions, energy, and physical symptoms in our own bodies, without the usual defenses that most people have.”
Being an Empath is a superpower! Even superheroes need to recharge!
I’ve always been an empath – it’s one of my superpowers!
When it comes to self-care around this superpower, sometimes I’m great at doing all the things, but sometimes not so much.
Hey, I’m human and what can ya’ do.
We are all human and the most important thing is to be gentle with ourselves while we are on our journey.
