I’ve had a bit of a health scare lately. It had developed into inhibiting my ability to walk on my right foot in the morning and after sitting for periods of time.
It got really bad on our honeymoon in October. It was so bad I would wake up in the morning and not be able to walk on my right foot. Among many other symptoms.
Guess what I was eating every day for the first week of our honeymoon?
Let’s just say the first week of our honeymoon at breakfast I included “breakfast’s desert” for myself. (I incorporated way too many delicious pastries! They were too delicious!)
I had been on a diet for the wedding for so long- I deserved it! Right?
I thought I was rewarding myself but I was really severely punishing my body.
Finally, about two months after returning home it got so bad I couldn’t ignore it. I went to see a podiatrist, he is fantastic by the way.
A few x-rays, MRIs, referrals to an orthopedic back doctor, endocrinologist, and a fantastic neurologist later, nobody can tell me more than some basic aging crap or that it could be an autoimmune or neurologic disease.
What is in my power to control? How can I take action?
Wow – ok. So, I know I have to be patient as we continue to test to determine what’s wrong but I am a woman of action. What can I do in the meantime? What is in my power to control?
For starters, I can control the food I put in my body which provides nourishment to my brain and my nerves.
Nutrition became my focus and I began researching. I researched, a lot.
Since autoimmune diseases are very prevalent in my family history and the doctors kept testing me for all of them, of course, I started researching the connection between nutrition and autoimmune diseases.
My research brought me to a documentary called, “What’s with Wheat” . It clearly shows proven evidence that an underlying connection to all autoimmune diseases is leaky-gut.
Seriously, guys, all autoimmune diseases can be connected to leaky gut.
What causes leaky gut?
Our gut flora is out of wack from the types of foods we consume.
Complex toxins in our body that can’t be broken down by our body’s natural mechanisms and process.
Guess what these complex toxins are?
Just to focus on wheat, these toxins can be complex chemicals used to hybridize the wheat, chemicals applied to the fields of wheat, grains, and rice, and the industrial methods used to process it.
Also, wheat is in just about everything because it’s mass-produced to the point of extreme overproduction.
There are so many chemicals in our food that it’s really confusing when you start looking at the ingredients on the labels of everything.
In my research, I have found that the state of our health in the United States is an epidemic.
Doctors and scientists have seen a drastic uptick in the cases of autoimmune diseases that Harvard Gazette calls autoimmune an epidemic.
As a country, we have seen a drastic uptick in autoimmune, cancer, and so many other diseases. The increase can be traced back to when we started using so many chemicals and mass-producing agriculture and animal products.
The documentary, “What’s with Wheat”, was extremely eye-opening for me. Please watch it. There is tons of research out there on what specialists are calling the “silent epidemic” – go look for yourself.
In the documentary, “What’s with Wheat”, the film gathers more than a dozen scientists, farmers, researchers, and nutritionists from around the globe to explore the science behind the claims around the connection to autoimmune diseases. It also explanations of the rise in celiac disease and non-celiacs disease.
It’s mindblowing, eyeopening, and certainly inspiring enough to change your lifestyle! That’s for sure…
So, I made some adjustments to my diet and I am now eating clean at the guidance of Whole30. I stay balanced and make sure to enjoy some dark chocolate here and there too 😉
Making my own salad dressings takes 5 minutes and they are SO much yummier! The recipes are super easy to find and so much fun to make! (and eat!)
All the food I’m eating has so much more flavor and I can’t begin to tell you the impact it’s had on every aspect of my life.
After eating fresh fruits, veggies, nuts, berries, and certified pasture-raised animal meat for a few weeks, I am THRILLED to say that 95% of ALL MY SYMPTOMS have disappeared.
Our gut health is so important!
Please do yourself a favor, do your own research, make dietary changes, check out “What’s with Wheat” and anything else you can get your hands on.
Do your body, your brain, your children, and your DNA a favor – make healthy choices.
I’m still on this journey and it’s definitely a practice in patience. On a daily basis I practice gratitude and have faith in the divine… Some might call this “Rose-Colored Glasses” but I beg to differ in this article on Gratitude and Good Vibes.
I will say, I am so grateful for all of it because it’s shed light on some very serious issues going on inside of my body and inside of our country. I’ve made some drastic changes and I’ve never felt better!

I started to have aching feet when getting up in the morning and after some time walking it goes away. Now I have a hard time standing up straight right away after sitting as my lower back feels locked into place. It is so depressing as I am otherwise healthy. I even went to an orthopedic, who just diagnosed I had slight scoliosis that I have probably had since I was a teen. I am curious if food could make a difference in these two things?

I’m so sorry to hear this! I feel your pain lady! Definitely look into the kinds of food you consume as there is a lot of research out there that shows the connection to aches, pains, and so many ailments. Maybe try Whole30 for 30 days and then add in different kinds of food to see what triggers it. Sugary foods, bread, pasta, and all the processed foods create inflammation inside our bodies and there are some really yummy foods that are anti-inflammatory to help! Berries, nuts, leafy greens, fish, even dark chocolate! Check out this article from Harvard Medical if you’re interested in specifics. Give it a try for a couple of weeks and you’ll notice a difference I’m sure! Let me know how you’re doing.. I’m thinking about you lady!
